Dr. Tan is a fellow of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and has Subspecialty Certificate in Surgery of the Hand. He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. He also obtained additional microvascular surgery training in the Plastic Surgery Department at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan.
Currently, Dr. Tan is Clinical Professor in Orthopedics and Director of the Hand, Upper Extremity & Microvascular Surgery Fellowship at Rutgers – New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Tan founded the Institute for Hand & Arm Surgery, with offices in Harrison and Millburn, New Jersey.
He has authored over 70 scientific articles and nearly 20 book chapters. Dr. Tan has lectured extensively, both at the national and international level. In addition, he is a design surgeon in several devices used in the treatment of hand, wrist and elbow fractures. He has been selected “Top Doctor” by New Jersey Monthly Magazine in 2007, 2008, 2014 and 2015; “Patients’ Choice” Recognition by MDx Medical, Inc. in 2008; and “Best Doctors” Recognition in 2009.
Dr. Tan has been in practice in New Jersey since 2001 and is dedicated to providing comprehensive care of disorders and injuries of the hand and upper limb. He treats patients of all ages.
